Astronomy

OLT’s Astronomy Program

OLT is in the initial phase of developing an Astronomy Program. OLT’s location and geography are extremely favorable for great celestial viewing. We plan to obtain (hint: we accept gifts!) a moderately powerful (8 inch or larger) telescope for use by OLT visitors to view the planets, sun and moon, galaxies, and other objects of interest.  Another part of the program will be to create a space for astronomers and those interested to gather with their telescopes and expertise on a regular basis for planet and star gazing parties. More serious celestial viewing, depending on interest, is also an option.

We need input on how to make this all work, what kind of telescope to obtain, and how to involve other groups and people in the program. Please forward any ideas or interest related to the Astronomy Program to terry@olt.org. Include any interest in learning how to use OLT telescopes and hosting star gazing sessions.

Lead Celestial Viewing through OLT’s Astronomy Programs!  Do you have knowledge of the night’s sky? Would you like to lead evening astronomy programs at OLT? We will be training volunteers to set up and operate our newly donated telescopes and to lead evening programs. An interest in and understanding of astronomy is required. Please contact us at 719.256.5212 or terry@olt.org to get more information.  Go to Volunteering.
