Caving The Orient Mine lies in a limestone layer that has been turned nearly vertical by the formation of the Rocky Mountains. Besides the man-made mine tunnels and shafts, natural caves have recently been discovered. Caving groups from the Colorado Air Force Academy, a local fire department and others have spent many hours surveying and mapping the passageways and caverns. Only a fraction of the natural cave has been explored to date. Orient Land Trust will encourage appropriate and responsible exploration and documentation of the natural cave. Plans include possibly producing a video of the cave for the public to enjoy. Click on the pictures of the cave to enlarge. |
