Staying at Orient Land Trust

Orient Land Trust is located at the end of a seven mile gravel road.  It is surrounded on all sides by public lands.  The nearest town (Villa Grove, population 50) is twelve miles away. Orient Land Trust provides lodging and other facilities to visitors, who would otherwise have to travel a great distance for accommodations.  Visitors are able to stay in rustic historic cabins, one of two small lodges, or a campground.

Come for the day or stay overnight. If you plan to stay overnight you have the option of camping, making use of Oak House (the communal lodge) or reserving a private accommodation. Both camping and the Oak House are available on a first-come-first-serve basis on weekdays, and  reservations are not needed.  Reservations are recommended however for the weekends and holidays for all visitors since a quota limits all weekend use. We will take reservations from two weeks to three months in advance depending on your benefits.

Many campsites can be found throughout the grounds and you are free to pick the one that most appeals to you. They range from tree-shaded tent sites to spaces that have room for a camper or van. Although there are no hook-ups, there are a few level spots large enough for RV's. The campsites are unimproved though all have primitive fire pits and some have picnic tables. Firewood is provided.  See What's New for current conditions and bans.

The Oak House is a shared space. It consists of several small private bedrooms, a coed dormitory, a kitchen and living room. You must provide your own bedding. Children, including teenagers, are only allowed to sleep in the Oak House if their parents are also sleeping there. The building is a non-smoking and pet-free area.

The private accommodations are either in the older cabins or the more modern Sunset Rooms. The cabins each have their own character. Built nearly one hundred years ago, they have been renovated with the addition of hydroelectric lights and heat. However, the cabins do not have telephone, television or private bathrooms. Separate central family-style (coed) restrooms with showers serve all accommodations. The Sunset Rooms consist of four private bedrooms, which share a kitchen and a half bath. Bedding is provided in all of the private accommodations. Some of the accommodations allow smoking and/or pets.  For more details, see the Rate Information and Admission Requirements.
